Postcards and stamps

postcardsJohn Hilton, who is chairman of the Poole and District Philatelic & Postcard Club, has been kind enough to write with news of the comings and goings at Upton Community Centre. Here’s a taster of what the club does and how to get involved.

“The society was founded in 1967, and is proud to be one of the first and one of longest of clubs using the Community Centre at Upton, since it was opened by HRH. The Duke of Kent on the 20th April 1993. As an active society in the area we offer a wide range of interests associated with our hobby. We have members at all levels from beginner to expert. Their interests cover all aspects of philately, not only stamps, but also postal history and postcards.

Being based in Upton, we try to involve the local community in meetings that may be of local interest.  On previous occasions we have held a slide show and speaker on the history of “Old Poole.” Reminiscing on the days before the building of the “Dolphin Centre” and the old Poole Station etc: We are also very proud that as a stamp club, we manage to add to our membership base, at a time when many other societies are falling on difficult times.  Our committee prides itself in involving other similar clubs, to exchange speakers and to take an interest in the local community affairs.

Full details of our meeting programme may be found on the club webpage http://www.philatelyinbournemouth.co.uk You are welcome to join us at any of our meetings, as a visitor, there is no charge to come along and see what we do.”
